Peter Lovenheim will visit the Verb Café for a signing and discussion of his new book, Portrait of a Burger as a Young Calf, Harmony/Random House, 2002.

Portrait follows the life of a single cow from "conception to consumption" as a way of breaching the disconnect so many of us feel between what we eat and where it comes from. Mark Kramer, Director of the Narrative Journalism Program, the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University has said, "This is a wonderful book about the process of farming and the people who farm. It's a serious book, lucid and endearing."

Peter is a graduate of the Boston University School of Journalism and Cornell Law School, and is the author of four previous books. He will talk, in part, about creative journalism and how to write in the real world with objectivity and passion.
