This is a rare opportunity to hear two authors share and discuss their works in progress.
Marcos Donnelly began publishing in the early 1990s. His outstanding short story The Resurrection of Alonso Quijana can be found in The Best From Fantasy & Science Fiction (St. Martin’s Press, 1994). His first novel, Prophets for the End of Time (Baen Books, 1998) received excellent reviews and was praised by the New York Review of Science Fiction.
Dana Paxson’s short stories have appeared in SF Age, and he is hard at work on his first science fiction novel.

The evening will include our annual awards presentations, a speech by Nicholson Baker, recipient of our 2002 “Sense of Place” award, and a cocktail party where people can mingle with our award winners and purchase books. W&B gives the “Sense of Place” award each year to a nationally recognized author whose work evokes a strong sense of place, either real or imagined.
Nicholson Baker is one of America’s leading contemporary authors. He has been described by Vanity Fair as “the best writer of our generation.” He has written several critically acclaimed novels including The Mezzanine, Vox, The Fermata, and, most recently, The Everlasting Story of Nory.
His book Double Fold: Libraries and the Assault on Paper, won the National Book Critics’ Circle Award and generated a national debate about how our historically significant newspapers are preserved. During his research for this book, he founded the American Newspaper Repository, a non-profit storage facility to preserve old books and newspapers in their original form (www.oldpapers.org).
