2007 Regional Playwright’s Festival
Sponsored by Writers & Books and Geva Theatre
In 2007 Writers & Books and Geva Theatre will once again collaborate to give regional playwrights the opportunity to bring their works to local audiences. This is the 11th year of our festival.
Full-length and one-act plays by regional playwrights will be given a staged reading by professional actors at Geva Theatre on April 30and May 17, 2007. We feature as many noteworthy new works as time and money allow, while trying to showcase a range of regional talent.
Our festival gives promising regional writers a chance to hear their work read aloud, and get the feedback they need to rewrite and take the script to another level of development. We do not think of this as a contest, with strict rules, tangible prizes, or clear winners and losers.
Submission Guidelines
- We are not in a position to offer a reading to musicals. Otherwise, there are no rules regarding length, content, or format. We do not wish to limit any writer’s imagination by setting arbitrary guidelines.
- Submission is open to regional playwrights—those who live or did live within the five-county region for a significant length of time.
- Plays for consideration must be submitted to Writers & Books (postmarked or hand-delivered) between January 23 and February 6, 2007
- Plays that have been submitted in the past may be resubmitted if there has been significant work done on the script since the last submission.
- An SASE for return must be included with the manuscript, so please provide clear contact information, including your phone number.
- The final selections will be made by April 5, and winners will be notified. Scripts will be returned after that date.
