Edgar Allan Poe

Writers & Books is pleased to announce that it has been selected for another Big Read program, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. For the month of October 2009, Writers & Books will be exploring the stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe. We will be hosting dozens of events including book discussions and readings, lectures, a film series, a kickoff event and a closing gala, and more. Writers & Books’ publishing imprint, Big Pencil Press, will be printing a special edition of selected works of Poe for individual, school and library use. If you would like to know more, or would like to have your school, library, organization, book group or workplace involved in the program, please email Karen vanMeenen, Big Read Coordinator, at karen@wab.org. The Big Read: The Many Ways of Looking at Poe

The work and personage of Edgar Allan Poe have produced many kinds of tributes.

Christopher Walken does a fantastic reading of "The Raven," as only he can.

Poetryanimations put together a number of videos of poets reading their own poems. Here, "Edgar Allan Poe" reads "The Raven."

Tim Burton's "Vincent" is, like many of Burton's works, a reflection of Poe's dark, dramatic style. This short film is one of Burton's first stop-motion productions.
