His book Double Fold: Libraries and the Assault on Paper, won the National Book Critics’ Circle Award and generated a national debate about how our historically significant newspapers are (or are not) preserved. During his research for this book, he founded the American Newspaper Repository, a non-profit storage facility to preserve old books and newspapers in their original form (www.oldpapers.org).
