THE GARDENS
She took her children out in the gardens
She taught them to plant seeds
She read them stories she had written /With a little love and with a little care, she said
As the little boys worked on their brown
Garden of mud and dirt, /these flowers
Shall blossom, like you children...
She cooked the meals
This time her husband didnt let the alcohol heal
He yelled at her and told her she didnt do things right
Her husband said she wasnt bright
The boys said nothing
But wondered if that dull garden would ever
Turn Spring colors
The boys got older
And so did their mother
The boys found drugs, cigarettes, and girls
their father wanted them to find God...
the garden stayed brown
Mother is getting sick and blind
While the boys wonder if the garden
Will ever grow
