| RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THE RED EYE And takeoff commences. We rise above like the soaring bird, conquering the skies, mastering the speed, all with the belief that we are controlling nature. Ohh, hit a little turbulence there. The golden labyrinth grows smaller as we fly higher. The city's rubies and sapphires, diamonds and emeralds begin to fade into the black velvet of night. Sad to be coming home, returning to the monotony and boredom of reality; I begin to reflect on my travels. The more one travels the smaller the world gets. You run into people from your home town in Katmandu instead of the corner store. The Universal Soul becomes manifest as you interact with such culturally diverse people, or so you think them to be diverse. You carry with you, along with your luggage, all your eccentricities and quirks, believing that you and only you possess these qualities. Yet, as you interact with people, you begin to realize that they were all the same. There are the same fears and hopes, frustrations and delights from Los Angeles to London to Lima. So what makes us succumb to the misconceptions and stereotypes? What separates people? The borders on the map or the borders within our hearts? In all its ferocity and beauty, it subtly and anger the world is a magical place. It is the universal school and the nurturing mother from which we come and return to. We must revere our own lives yet we must learn to cherish the lives of others. How can one lay in agony while the helping hand looks on, thanking god it wasn't them yet not reach out? Since when did violence become beauty and corruption truth? We might criticize the world and its problems but do we ever look through the Intrinsic Mirror and realize that the world reflects its inhabitants? |
