Dancing With Lightning
Dancing with lightning,
I frolic among gray storm clouds.
Thunder rumbles from my uncaged feet.
I am the rain, swirling, flowing
stronger than the sun.
Here
Here, where cars below can be squashed
between two well-placed fingers
and, oblivious to their oblivion,
move on, no faster than the spider
who creeps cat-like across my knee,
lukewarm water is sweet in my mouth
and the bumblebee, buzzing amiably,
noses its furry head into the daisy’s yellow center
like a puppy anxious to lick each scrap.
If it were mine,
it would be everyone’s,
I could not contain such a thing in my small self.
The Toad
The toad sits, listless
Flame reflecting in his quiet eyes.
A look that pulls me
into the rising sea.
It is over my head.
A sudden splash—
No, only thick wet air
glowing in the afternoon.
The Wind
The wind does not whisper,
it breathes
in a sigh so lonesome
it tugs at the hearts
of small things,
longing to snatch just a sliver of life for its own.
