Autumn 2002 Workshops at Writers & Books Dramatic GenresOne-Person Performance Piece Workshop
What do Whoopie Goldberg, Spaulding Grey, Lily Tomlin and Samuel Beckett have in common? The one-person performance piece. Learn to build a stage character, create scenes within scenes and play all the parts. Part actor, part writer; part stand-up comedian. The performance artist has been around as long as stories have been told. This is the form that can incorporate all those tidbits and observations you’ve been saving in your notebook, so bring it to class. A reading of the material will be held at the end of the session. Exploring Playwriting: The One-Act Form
The one-act form is currently enjoying great popularity. Our goal is to write a one-act play, 10 to 20 minutes in length, using the building blocks of plot, characterization and structure. Our focus will be on character, point of view, objectives, conflict, relationships, dialogue and action. The final class will be staged readings of material developed in the workshop for an invited audience. |
