Creative Writing Day Camps & Workshops for Children & Teens
SummerWrite: Where writing by children and teens, ages 6–18, blossoms in conditions of creative stimulation, challenge, fun and freedom. Ten weeks of summer camps, workshops and special programs for all aspiring writers, from the curious to the accomplished.
A Note From Our Director of Youth Education
Hello! Joyful words to you all, readers and writers!
Greetings from the Neighborhood of the Arts, land of hand-shaped benches and gigantic cats! I think back on how I first taught an Explore, Experience, Write Now class shortly after we moved to this building around twenty years ago. That summer I think we may have offered two workshops for children. Demand has grown, we have developed a wonderful group of teaching writers, and now we offer over thirty programs.
The main news this summer:
- For High School students we are mounting an in-depth program, Writing for College, designed for the student who is ready for a new challenge and wants to get a leg up on what college will entail. Playwriting is also new for teens.
- Some successful classes have expanded. The popular Our Own Radio Show with Maria Gillard is going for two weeks this July, to allow more writing and creativity. The group always accomplished so much in one week, we are looking forward to what they can produce in two! The same weeks, in the afternoon, children can take Nature Speaks, another fine program directed at writing and performance. Later, Word on the Street, Reading Buddies and Book Arts are all available as full days.
- For ages 11-15, the second year of our in-depth two-week full day program Write Yourself Into History will be offered in July. This is the perfect program to enrich the skills of the eager reader and writer.
- Rendevous with French is back for the 6-8-year-olds, and we’ve added an exciting Puppeteering program!
We look forward to celebrating the writing of children and teens inspired and enriched by music, movement theatrical performances, sense walks, museum/gallery trips…
We hope you find something right for you. We are eager to hear from and meet friends old and new!
Sincerely,
Director of Youth Education and Community Outreach
