Summer 2005 Youth Programs

Writers & Books' Summer Youth Programs
Creative Writing Day Camps & Workshops for Children & Teens

SummerWrite: Where writing by children and teens, ages 6–24, blossoms in conditions of creative stimulation, challenge, fun and freedom. Ten weeks of summer camps, workshops and special programs for all aspiring writers, from the curious to the accomplished.

Wendy LowA Note From Our Director of Youth Education

Hello!

Summer is on its way to the Neighborhood of the Arts, where hand-shaped benches and gigantic cats roam. It brings with it a cascade of creativity and new friendships that emerge from shared interests in reading and writing, storytelling and acting.

So often I hear adults say, “I wish that they had something like SummerWrite when I was a child!” I feel the same way, so I'm proud to be able to offer many delightful choices to the coming generation of readers and writers. Our participants love to take their skills and dreams seriously… and have fun with them!

Plenty is new this summer—let me alert you to a few of the ways SummerWrite will be extending beyond the written word this year:

  • Visual Arts
  • Music
  • Travel
  • Dramatic Arts
  • Photography
  • Radio
  • Hiking in Nature
  • Gallery & Studio Trips
  • Shakespeare
  • even Cooking!

We hope you find something to fit your summer dreams, and eagerly look forward to hearing from you!

With joyful words,

Director of Youth Education and Community Outreach
