Week 5: July 25–29

The Storyteller’s Apprentice: Creating Picture Books and Performing for Children

  • Ages: 9–13
  • All day!
  • SY5-M3D5
  • Instructors: S. Renée Conley & Kevin SerWacki
  • ALL DAY: July 25–29, 9 am–4 pm
  • $195 W&B members / $215 general public

You like that special warmth that comes from faces in rapt attention to your voice. Perhaps you plan to baby-sit or work with children in the future, and want to learn more about engaging techniques for reading and storytelling that encourage them to grow up to be readers. Perhaps you see yourself as a future public speaker, swaying crowds with your voice, or as a beloved author of children’s books. You are a great candidate for Storytelling Apprenticeship! Monday and Tuesday will focus on the skills of an oral storyteller and on your own ideas for a book. You will then apply your skills for an hour each day at Asbury daycare center, where you will read and tell stories to individuals and small groups. You will choose at least one story to develop into a special dramatic delivery for Friday, and create your own short book to show the daycare children. On Friday afternoon at 3 pm, invited family and friends will get to see your work.
