Lives & Legacies: Searching for the Feminine Story, a Workshop & Dialogue for Women

SA9-T01
2 Saturdays, 10 a.m.-noon
April 18 through April 25
$49 W&B members / $55 general public
Instructor: Almeta Whitis

The universal truths found in stories encompass class, race, gender, religious, ethnic, economic, political, geographic, and social constraints. Stories effectively connect people in profound and valuable ways. Storytelling is about connection, helping people to take risks and reveal something about themselves. In this workshop, participants will explore a woman’s life story in order to discover the lessons found there. Using story, we will recreate and explore the tradition of honoring elder women as the nurturers and educators for younger women, as well as their historic role as the supporters of the mental, spiritual and emotional health of the community.

Lyric-focused Songwriting Workshop

SA9-T03
1 Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
May 2
$39 W&B members / $43 general public
Instructor: Jon Itkin

Songs are built on melody and rhythm, but lyrical content is often the difference between a nice tune and a transcendent piece of art. For songwriters, building an understanding of lyrics is a life-long process. This workshop with Rochester songwriter Jon Itkin is designed to spur creativity and help participants examine their own lyric writing by sharing and discussing their work. Whether you’re a novice songwriter looking to expand your craft or an experienced individual interested in sharing your knowledge and picking up a few new tricks, this will be a great experience. Bring an acoustic instrument or a CD, lyric sheets and an open mind.

Signup list at front desk 1/2 hour before. or sign up by emailing Carol Roberts at crobert8@rochester.rr.com with “Monthly Sign Up” in the subject line.
