Special TopicsLives & Legacies: Searching for the Feminine Story, a Workshop & Dialogue for Women
The universal truths found in stories encompass class, race, gender, religious, ethnic, economic, political, geographic, and social constraints. Stories effectively connect people in profound and valuable ways. Storytelling is about connection, helping people to take risks and reveal something about themselves. In this workshop, participants will explore a woman’s life story in order to discover the lessons found there. Using story, we will recreate and explore the tradition of honoring elder women as the nurturers and educators for younger women, as well as their historic role as the supporters of the mental, spiritual and emotional health of the community.
Writing the Anarchist Manifesto
Every anarchist must have a manifesto. Anyone can write an anarchist manifesto; the question is will yours be read? Using the sure-fire format developed by Anarchist Action of Rochester guarantees you will get plenty of attention. Plus, with a wave of our patented magic wand, your anarchist manifesto can be changed into an anti-anarchist manifesto, should you experience a last minute change of heart.
Course Cancelled Lyric-focused Songwriting Workshop
Songs are built on melody and rhythm, but lyrical content is often the difference between a nice tune and a transcendent piece of art. For songwriters, building an understanding of lyrics is a life-long process. This workshop with Rochester songwriter Jon Itkin is designed to spur creativity and help participants examine their own lyric writing by sharing and discussing their work. Whether you’re a novice songwriter looking to expand your craft or an experienced individual interested in sharing your knowledge and picking up a few new tricks, this will be a great experience. Bring an acoustic instrument or a CD, lyric sheets and an open mind.
Writing More and Suffering Less: Understanding and Improving Your Writing Behavior
How can you get your book out of the daydream stage? How can you stay with it and finish it? How can you make writing a pleasure, not a pain? David Pascal combines his own professional writing experience with degrees in psychology and the humanities to help writers learn how to better enjoy the writing process and how to meet and exceed their goals. This course will teach you to observe and understand your own writing habits, show you how to deal with writer’s block, explain how to minimize or eliminate problems and distractions, and help you make productivity a pleasure. Several tested and successful approaches will be discussed, explored, and tailored to each individual need.
