Songs are everywhere. Love some? Good. Hate some? Interesting… Feel the urge to change some words, or some notes? Great! There’s a place for you in Writers & Books’ Song Project. Whether you write words, music, or both, Song Project is a place to find support, co-writers, and people ready to sing or play your song. Students can work on their own, or team up with others. The only requirement is a willingness to share your work with others and a desire to take it to the next level. Come to the first session with CDs and lyric sheets for your favorite songs. If you play an instrument, bring it (keyboard on site). Bring food and beverages if needed to keep your brain firing along.

Facilitator: Reenah L. Golden

Join a group of like-minded teens who are developing their skills as spoken word poets for performances and slams. We will sample readings, video and audio performances by prominent poets. We will get ideas for new ways to approach creating work, try new techniques, and give each other feedback on work in progress. We’ll videotape ourselves to see where we can improve. The first program of each month will culminate in an opportunity to hang out after 7 p.m. and work on pieces in progress. The second program of each month leads into the 25 & Under Series where we will watch a showcase of various styles of local young writers and, if you like, perform at an open mike.
