“Literature on the Environment” Hike

J10-C01
1 Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
July 31 [AT GELL]
$39 W&B members / $43 general public
Instructor: Angela Cannon

This day is for those who love hiking and reveling in the words of American Nature Writers. We’ll meet at the Gell Center in Bristol and walk - or commute - a ½ mile north to the Bristol Branch of The Finger Lakes Trail. This easy- moderate trail passes fields, woods, wetlands, and a large pond. I’ll have readings by such naturalists as Thoreau, Dillard, Lopez and others with opportunity for discussion. We’ll return to the Gell Center for a late lunch with time to relax on the front porch, visit more, or do your own writing inside or on the grounds. Cost for this program includes a midday meal so please let us know ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions.

Brain Works: The Creative Person’s Tool Box

J10-C02
1 Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Aug. 28
$46 W&B members / $49 general public
Instructor: Len Messineo

Do you sometimes find yourself at wit’s end, digging yourself deeper into the same mental hole, locking yourself in a box as tight as a Wells Fargo safe? This class will offer participants a toolbox of creative thinking techniques gleaned from sources as diverse as Aristotle to Edward deBono, and demonstrate such brainstorming techniques as free-writing/looping, clustering, decisional PMI, and many others. Though targeted specifically for writers, this class will also be of value to planners, teachers, administrators, or for anyone whose business it is to think outside the box.
