May 2 through June 27 (no class Memorial Day, May 30)

The most useful 2000 words in the English language may be yours. In traditional societies, the elders held a revered place. They were the keepers of the stories, repositories of wisdom passed on to them from the past and derived from their hard-won lifelong experience. They held the key to who we are and how we ought to live.
The purpose of the 2000 Word Club is to offer class members an opportunity to explore the various creative writing genre— fiction, memoir, creative essay, experimental forms, and even chapters of larger works—to find the form most amenable to their experience and imagination. The only requirement, manuscripts must be under 2000 words. Class members manuscripts are critiqued in a cordial and supportive environment, craft issues discussed, and suggestions made to make manuscripts more readable/marketable.

Advanced Memoir: Sculpting Your Story
S11-C04
8 Wednesdays 7-9 p.m.
April 27 through June 15 (no class May 25)
$175 W&B members / $180 general public
Instructor: Anais Salibian
This class is open to anyone who has taken a memoir class before. Although you will receive prompts to generate new writing, our focus will be on crafting your drafts. I liken the stages of the writing process to making pottery: your first draft is creating your clay. Next, we deepen and broaden your material--just what are you making out of this clay? What does the clay want to become? Now you can start to shape it: how do your structure a story or a memoir? Once you have your bowl or mug or vase, then you refine it and glaze it: you look at how your sentences work; you edit. Class feedback is always done with care and respect. Your writing can be at any of the above stages, and the feedback will be appropriate for that stage.

$97 W&B members / $101 general public
Instructor: Almeta Whitis
Long, summer days of our youth often meant time spent day dreaming and playing all day with our friends. It was also a time when many American families hit the road for adventure, sometimes coming upon the most unexpected challenges or treasures! Why not give your children or grandchildren a picture of your past adventures by sharing your own stories of childhood friends and travels with your family? Recent findings show that children who know family stories – stories of their parents’ childhood and of their ancestors – have a stronger sense of identity and greater resiliency than those who do not.
