Stand-Up Comedy Workshop

Stand-up comedy is the art of writing jokes blended with the art of performing them. In this 6-week supportive experiential workshop students will learn the basics of comedy writing and performing. Students will develop original material outside of class and perform each week for one another in a supportive atmosphere. Some in-class writing exercises will take place. Material covered will include: types of humor, style, attitude, segues, A & B material, ad lib, microphone usage, juxtaposition joke writing, progressive comedy. The class will culminate with a show the final day of class. No experience necessary, beginners and pros welcome. Warning: class can get jovial Instructor is a former stand-up comic who has performed with Ellen DeGeneres, Robin Williams and Paula Poundstone.

Whose Class Is it Anyway? aka Comedy Improv

Play comedy improvisation games like those seen on the television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” Students will learn the comedy improv games/structures, learn how to ask for suggestions from the audience and incorporate them into totally improvised comedy. We will learn the basic rules of improv and how to work with fellow performers. No experience required. Come prepared to laugh. Instructor is a former professional comedy improviser in SF and NYC.

Screenwriting 101

Have an idea that you think would make a great film? Well, don’t wait to write it “one day”. Spend this Spring warming up your creativity with Screenwriting 101. My intro writing class is a fun and structured way to learn how to shape your ideas into an engaging and polished screenplay. In addition to writing & feedback, we will also study popular films to learn about plot and characters. Additionally, you will learn formatting and style to ensure your script is submission ready.

Finish Your First Draft Screenplay

Whether you want to revise a finished script, or develop an idea that you have yet to write, this class will provide the structure and feedback needed to help you finish that first draft of your feature length screenplay. We will help develop your ideas with class exercises that focus on plotting, structure, and characterization. Additionally, we will help you navigate your way through your story with group feedback and pitch sessions. (Class is for Intermediate and Advanced).
