Welcome to SummerWrite! Each summer we offer half-day and full-day workshops for creative young readers and writers. Our programs support the basic reading and writing skills students study in school, but also reach further, tapping into creativity and inspiration, as young people learn to discover their own passions and develop their own voices.

This year we’re thrilled to be celebrating our 30th anniversary at Writers & Books. We are one of the country’s oldest and largest community-based literary centers. Our SummerWrite workshops reach upwards of 500 students each summer, and they are unique in their offerings. Our first summer workshops for youth took place in 1985. We offered three workshops for each of two different age groups. It wasn’t until 1999 that we published our first official SummerWrite catalog: it was eight pages long and featured 26 camps. We are pleased, this year, to be offering over 70 workshops, over the course of nine weeks, for children and teens ranging in age from 5-18.

We take great pride in our instructors who are all accomplished writers, performers, and artists in their own right. In addition, they are individuals who are skilled in drawing out the best from creative young minds. Joy is at the core of all we do. Browse through the offerings in this catalog and we’ll look forward to seeing you this summer!

In the spirit of creativity,

Sally Bittner Bonn
Director of Youth Education
